2020 Gramay Gamay
Gamay Noir 2020
Pence Ranch Vineyard. Sta. Rita Hills AVA
“Maude the Donkey” label
This electric magenta, juicy, savory gamay celebrates my Grandmother, Ada. Grapes were harvested on September 2, 2020, which would have been her 93rd birthday. From her favorite place, Santa Barbara County, this wine was made in a low-intervention style with no additives, and bottled unfined and unfiltered. The label for this vintage features Ada on her childhood pet, a donkey named Maude. As you can she, Ada had a scowl that could light your soul on fire, but also smiled a lot more than this photo suggests!
2021 Gramay Gamay
Gamay Noir 2021
Nolan Vineyard, Alisos Canyon AVA
“Turkey Parade” label
The 2021 vintage will forever live in my mind as a stellar vintage in the vineyard and in the bottle. Acidity is racy due to the moderate temps and consistently cool nights, and complexity is high due to the warm afternoons and long hang time. Nolan Vineyard, located in the recently minted Alisos Canyon AVA is meticulously farmed and dedicated to esoteric varieties; Gamay may be their most mainstream planting. This wine is light and spicy, fresh and fruity and excellent slightly chilled on a sunny patio. The label for this vintage features Ada in her homemade turkey feather dress, with her friends in the Ramona turkey parade. The daughter of a turkey farmer, she learned to sew and used farm materials to create beautiful designs. She even crafted a turkey egg bikini which was the height of ranch fashion.
2022 Gramay Gamay
Gamay Noir 2022
Nolan Vineyard, Alisos Canyon AVA
“High Sierra Trail” label
The 2022 Gamay - Nolan Vineyard is a cacophony of fruits, spices and herbs. This Gamay was made with 50% whole cluster and 50% destemmed fruit, fermented for 9 days in a sealed fermenter and pressed slightly sweet, to finish fermentation in tank. Aged 6 months in neutral French oak, it was bottled unfined and unfiltered. 2022 was a moderately cool vintage with a pop of heat right before harvest, boosting the brightness and juiciness of this bottling. Just like the lady on the label, be prepared on your next camping trip or beach adventure with a bottle of this fun and versatile wine! This wine features Ada on one of her favorite trails, the High Sierra Trail. She was an avid outdoors woman and felt her most comfortable in her hiking boots out in nature.
